The Oba of Benin, Omo N’ Oba N’ Edo Uku Akpolokpolo, Oba Ewuare N’Ogidigan II, has charged doctors and other health workers across the country to end the incessant strikes currently ravaging the medical sector.
Oba Ewuare explained that several lives, which would have been saved, were lost due to the ceaseless strikes in Nigerian hospitals.
He spoke against the backdrop of strike by medical practitioners particularly doctors, nurses and other health workers, when the Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH), Dr. Darlington Obaseki, paid him a special visit in his palace. The Omo N’Oba who condemned the unfortunate situation, challenged the new CMD of UBTH to save lives rather than embarking on unnecessary strikes that could be detrimental to the people.
The monarch also tasked Obaseki to leave no stones unturned at revamping the hospital and repositioning it for better performance than his predecessors for the benefit of all.
Responding, Obaseki said he was at the palace to inform him of his appointment as the substantive CMD of UBTH and seek his royal blessings.
