The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) in Benue State has embarked on a 7-day warning strike over what it described as the inability of the state government and management of Federal Medical Centre (FMC) to meet the demands of doctors.
In a communiqué signed by its Chairman, Dr. Obekpa Obekpa and Secretary, Dr. Nwaeze Chukwuemeka, respectively, they said the doctors resolved to embark on the warning strike beginning from 12:00 midnight of Tuesday, October 3, 2017.
It also directed all medical and dental practitioners working with FMC, Benue State University Teaching Hospital (BSUTH), Benue State Ministry of Health, Health Management Board and College of Health Sciences of Benue State University to proceed on strike. The communiqué added that members of the NMA in private hospitals and Faith-Based health facilities are exempted from the warning strike action for now.
The association however commended the patience of its members despite the protracted unfavourable working conditions and serial breach of collective agreements by the Benue State government and the management of FMC.
