Chairman Association of the Catholic Medical Practitioners of Nigeria, Owerri Archdiocese chapter, Dr. Philip Njemanze has called for the amendment of an National Health Act passed by the seventh National Assembly.

Njemanze, who made the call in a press briefing in Owerri, said the already passed health Act had some flaw with its implementation, saying it would spell doom for Nigerians and the entire healthcare system. He said: “The National Health Act passed by the last National Assembly and signed by former President Goodluck Jonathan has a lot of flaws.
“Before the passage of the act, Catholic medical practitioners pointed out these serious defects in the law, ‘unimplementable’ for now.
“The defects capped under three groups are; ethical problems which have to do with the permission on human organ trafficking in Sections 48 and 51, as well as harvesting of organs without consent.
