Twelve people have reportedly died from cholera within Ilorin metropolis.
Daily Trust findings also show that some hospitals within the state capital are filled up with patients suffering from cholera.
Some people have blamed the outbreak on the heaps of refuse dumps in and around the city waiting to be evacuated by the authorities concerned.
Meanwhile, the Kwara State government said it has put in place measures to contain the spread of suspected cholera in parts of Ilorin, the state capital. The Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Isiaka Gold disclosed this during an on the spot assessment to primary health care centers, cottage hospitals and the General Hospital, Ilorin.
Gold, who led the government’s delegation to assess the situation, said the government had deployed resources to ensure that cholera does not spread in the state.
The Secretary to the State Government said the government had begun sensitisation of the public on the need for personal hygiene and environmental sanitation.
He announced that the government has supported hospitals with necessary drugs to contain the disease.
Corroborating, the state Commissioner for Health, Alhaji Atolagbe Alege said the ministry had deployed both human and material resources needed to the cases are localised and treated.
