Community Pharmacists Call for United Action against Drug Abuse

The National Chairman, Association of Community Pharmacy, Samuel Adekola, has stressed the need for concerted efforts to be taken by Nigerians in tackling the menace of drug and substance abuse. Adekola at a press briefing in Lagos on Tuesday, said the association would focus on the issue of drug and substance abuse at its 38th annual conference which would hold in Kano between June 30 and July 6, 2019.

He said the theme of the conference, ‘Tackling the menace of drug abuse’, was chosen to reflect the need for professionals in the country to join hands in fighting the scourge of drug abuse in Nigeria. He said, “We believe that if we do something differently, we would have a better result, that is why we think of a disruptive approach to solve the issue of drug and substance abuse. Other sub-themes have been chosen to give the community pharmacy practitioners from all over Nigeria enough information and materials to increase our contributions to nation building and improve the good building.”
 
Adekola also called on President Muhammadu Buhari to assent the Pharmacy bill as this would also help in curbing the excesses of the open drug markets.
