A Nigerian medical doctor working at Medical Centre Keffi, Ikoyi, Lagos State, was kidnapped by some men yesterday.
This was even as a rumour of three expatriate doctors also being kidnapped yesterday, swept through the Nigerian social media.
It was alleged that the foreign doctors were kidnapped on Saturday morning. The white men were further alleged to be working with a popular hospital located at Awolowo Road, Ikoyi, Lagos. The abduction of the white doctors remains unconfirmed. Many people believed that the story was scripted and placed on social media by bloggers desperate to attract traffic to their sites.
The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Dolapo Badmus, reacting to the story, said the command has not received any case of foreign doctors being kidnapped.
A police source, however, confirmed that a Nigerian Medical doctor was abducted at his place of work yesterday.
The doctor, whose name is yet unknown, was abducted at about 10:30am.
The kidnappers were said to have taken the doctor at the Medical Centre and bundled him into their waiting car.
The police source further explained: “The doctor works with Medical Centre, located at Keffi. The hospital is very close to Mobile Police Force Barracks, Mopol 2. The men walked into the hospital, asking for the victim. When they were asked if they wanted to see the doctor for treatment or check up, they claimed to have come for personal reasons. According to them, they came to have a personal discussion with him. The doctor was sent for. When the doctor came out, they grabbed him and bundled him into their car.”
Whether the doctor was kidnapped for ransom or some other motives, is yet unknown.
But Badmus also said she wasn’t aware of the Nigerian medical doctor being kidnapped.
