The Director General Consumer Protection Commission, CPC, Mr Babatunde Irukera has expressed willingness to partner with Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria in the fight against quackery and unwholesome practice in the country. He expressed this when the Acting Registrar/CEO, MLSCN , Mr Tosan Erhabor paid him a courtesy visit in his office in Abuja .

While speaking during the visit, Mr Erhabor said the reason for the visit was for the Council to present its Act to the Commission, intimate it with the mandate of the Council and at the same time extend a hand of fellowship to the Commission to collaborate with MLSCN in its efforts to rid the country of quackery and unwholesome practice.

The Acting Registrar noted that “it is the duty of the government to protect its citizens from any form of harm as regards to their health and unwholesome practice, the two agencies’ mission and vision he said; is tilted towards this goal.. He then used the opportunity to invite the commission to be part of the inspection team of the Council by sending representatives to this exercise which is billed to continue from April this year.
In his reply, the Director General expressed regrets that wrong diagnosis has made Nigeria a laughing stock in the international community and expressed his willingness to work with the Council in its bid to give the country good medical laboratory service as riding the country of such cankerworm will not only improve the services but also instill sanity in the system.

He however urged Council to clear her spaces first by involving all the stakeholders in the industry in the fight against quackery and unwholesome practice, as he said, “be in control of your space and take the accolades that comes with it, people can only take you serious when you make someone accountable for their misdeeds, because without making someone a scape goat, you will not be taken serious”. He added that it is only when this is done that the commission will come in just as he said the Commission is more poised than ever to protect the rights of the citizens of this country from obnoxious practices and unscrupulous exploitation of the manufacturers of goods and services including good laboratory services
