CSO: Dont Ridicule Medical Council By Olayemi John-Mensah

The Transparency Advocacy Initiative for Development (TAID) has cautioned against bringing the name of the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) to disrepute.

National Coordinator of the group, Yomi David yesterday said the organisation was concerned about recent media reports that questioned the integrity of MDCN, a body established by law to test, and license competent practitioners into the medical profession.

He said the position of the regulating agency is sacrosanct and it was unbecoming, when beneficiaries cast aspersions on the impartiality of the agency.

David was reacting to recent controversy over mass failure of some foreign trained medical doctors in an examination conducted by the MDCN.

He said “It was unacceptable that candidates who could pass a routine examination would resort to casting aspersions on the examiner, rather than trying again with better preparations when the next examination cycle comes around.”
