The department of the Medical Rehabilitation, Faculty of Health, College of Medicine, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife is currently dotting its I's and crossing its T's towards the commencement of Audiology training programme in the department. This Unique initiative is believed, will make the department and the University a trail blazer in the training of Medical rehabilitation Programmes in Nigerian Universities.

Audiology will become the third Medical Rehabilitation Programme to be run by the department after the two other currently run programmes, which are Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy.

Prof Owolawi, haven been introduced by the Provost of the college, Prof. Fatusi, alongside officials of the Board, MRTB during the 2017, Pre-Induction lecture by the Board, however succinctly puts it that "Ife is going to be a trail blazer in Audiology in this country, haven gone round many countries in the World, in South Africa, they have five (5) universities with Audiology, full programme, In Saudi Arabia we have three(3), in Egypt we have three(3) but in Nigeria, we have none and i felt compelled that why should i serve other countries and my country is wriggling in the problem of hearing impairment"
