Following the transfer of primary Health Care Staff to the Agency, there was need to redistribute health workers at the LGA based on patient traffic to facilities, capacity of staff to deliver special services at the facilities (such that we have the right skill mix) and the size of facility/ community the facility is expected to serve. To achieve this the Agency held a workshop with all PHC Coordinators to effect posting of staff.

 

Speaking at the planning meeting of Primary Healthcare Coordinators, Dr Betta Edu thanked Pathfinders for their support to the Planning Meeting of Local Government Primary Healthcare Coordinators  to fine tune PHC coordination, redistribution and posting of health workers.

 

According to the DG, one of the reasons for movement of  Primary Healthcare Workers was to correct disparities in the Primary Healthcare System. She raised issues about facilities closed in some communities because staff won’t go there to work, the crowd in Calabar and it’s environs, while other LGA don’t even have staff available to offer health care services

 

She stated that posting letters will go to the head of facilities and the district chief in order for the communities to take full responsibilities and ownership of healthcare facilities and workers. The village Chiefs and the community is expected to monitor the activity of the health workers in their community and report to the agency if the don’t come to work.

 

Further stating she said PHC Coordinators need to go round and checkmate the performance of health workers for effective service delivery. This will enable the Agency build a workable solid system for primary healthcare.

 

Dr Edu alerted the PHC coordinators of the drugs coming in for all PHCs across the State. She said the State will compliment the effort of Pathfinders  by ensuring at the community level, E2A will improve referral systems and focus on community outreach to counsel women, families, local leaders, and community organizations on the importance of high-impact interventions, such as four antenatal care visits and birth planning.

 

“Finally one last chance will be given to people with verification and salary issues to clear themselves.while from 19th-25th June, 2017 , the medical committee will be going round to ascertain fitness of health workers with health challenges in various LGAs of the State.

 

Also Speaking, Head of Pathfinders Cross River State Dr Yemisi Femi-pius said through Saving Mothers, Giving Life, pathfinder will seek to ensure that every woman has access to clean and safe delivery services, and in the event of an obstetric complication, life-saving emergency care within two hours. Pathfinders International is very pleased to be working with Cross River State Government to achieve quality healthcare.

 

Our continuous interface with stakeholders and health partners is to find long lasting solution to the health issues. She noted that PHC staff had already been trained in some facilities and training will continue .
