Founder of the Afe Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti (ABUAD), Aare Afe Babalola (SAN), yesterday commenced a two week free health mission for the people across the state.

The programme, being held on the premises of the Federal Teaching Hospital, Ido Ekiti (FETHI) was targeted at pregnant women, children and the aged people.

Speaking with reporters, Provost ABUAD College of Medicine and Health Services, Prof. Olurotimi Sanya, said the move was made to assert the relevance of the health institution to the lives of the people.

According to him, the free consultation, treatment and drugs prescription for beneficiaries was the first stage of the programme, noting that those with more critical issues would be referred to specialists for treatment at subsidised rates.

He said: “The programme which would gulp millions of naira was the result of Aare Afe’s belief that there are many areas the university can have positive impact on the immediate environment.

“This programme is a brainchild of Aare Afe Babalola and it was in fulfillment of the ‘town and gown’ relationship between the university and the community.

“This is a collaboration between ABUAD College of Medicine and the Federal Teaching Hospital, Ido Ekiti and it is free of charge.”
