Workers of the Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital, Enugu, have passed a vote of confidence on their Medical Director, Dr. Jojo Onwukwe.
The workers, under the aegis of Association of Psychiatric Nurses of Nigeria (APNON) were reacting to a statement signed by the Enu-gu State Chairman of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Mr. Virginus Nwobodo, who called for the removal of the medical director.
Miffed by the statement, the workers accused Nwobodo and the leadership of the NLC in Enugu State of instigating crisis in the hospital even when the workers were going about their normal duties without any problem. The workers, in a statement signed by their Chairman, Maduka Chibuzo, Vice Chairman, Maris Ngozi Opara, Secretary, Emeka Iregbulem and 18 others, therefore, lambasted the Enugu NLC chairman for doing a job they did not invite him to do, saying that he only wants to destabilise their hospital. The workers wondered where the NLC chairman, who is a non-staff derived such a mandate to act on their behalf.
They insisted that no congress was held in the hospital where any issue affecting their welfare was discussed, and therefore, called on Nwobodo to immediately resign.
"We do hereby state categorically that there is no human rights abuse in our hospital by our medical director. We are enjoying our medical director as our chief executive and that Mr. Nwobodo has no right to call for his removal, and he does not speak for us."
