Former Vice-Chancellor, Ambrose Ali University, Ekpoma, Prof. Dennis Agbonlahor has warned patients against abuse of antibiotic drugs.
He gave the advise in Benin at a workshop organized by Lahor Research Centre in conjunction with the Edo State Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria (AMLSN),
He said: “Vaccine do not kill organisms. It is antibiotic drugs that kill the organisms completely. Vaccines can only prevent the infections by the organisms. What we are highlighting here today is the growing development of resistance by organisms all over the world against antibiotics.” The Guest Lecturer, Professor of Medical Microbiology and Immunology, Niger Delta University, Bayelsa State, Prof.Tatfeng Mirabeau said abuse of the drugs caused more harm to patients and advised them to adhere to the physicians’ prescriptions before taking antibiotics.
Edo State AMLSN Chairman, Dr. Raymond Uyiekpen Omorodion, said the aim of the event was to create awareness on the role that biomedical laboratory scientists played in providing health care delivery to the nation.
