Nigerians have been warned against waiting till disasters and emergencies happen before making blood donations.
Programme Manager and Focal Person for Blood Safety with the Institute of Human Virology, Nigeria (IHVN), Abdullahi Abubakar , gave the advise yesterday during blood donation drive organized by IHVN in Abuja to commemorate this year’s World Blood Donor Day. He said: “The common thing in Nigeria is that people wait until there is an emergency need before they donate blood that is why a lot of hospitals are relying on family replacement donors. Many people only donate blood when their relation is sick, that is an emergency.”
