The Federal Capital Territory Primary Health Care Development Board yesterday flagged-off the 2017 African Vaccination Week expected to hold from April 24-30.
It is aimed at promoting the use of vaccine for protection against diseases.
Speaking while briefing newsmen, Executive Secretary of the Board, Dr. Rilwanu Mohammed, said immunization was recognized as one of the most successful and cost effective health interventions ever introduced, preventing two to three million deaths every year, and protects against life threatening diseases like cancer, meningitis and influenza. Dr. Rilwanu said that this year’s event would roll into the Immunization Plus Day IPD vaccination week which would take place from 29th April to 2nd May 2017.
He said the vaccination would be carried out in all the area councils of the FCT but with emphasis on Kwali Area Council and areas with low coverage.
