The Federal Ministry of Health have embarked on a road show towards increasing public visibility for the recently launched New National Family Planning Logo called the “Green Dot”.
Speaking at the flag-off ceremony in Abuja, the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Health, Mr Clement Uwaifo said that the aim of the road show was to increase the visibility for the New National Family Planning Logo, as the official marker for all the Public and Private Health Facilities where individuals would obtain quality family services that were safe, trusted, affordable and effective across the country.
He noted that the initiative was very important to the ministry because it was aimed at sustaining the on-going multi-media and outdoor person to person National family planning communication campaign towards achieving the targeted 36% contraceptive prevalent rate in Nigeria by 2018.
He informed that the available evidence suggested that although about 83.6% of females in Nigeria were knowledgeable about modern family planning services, only 15% of women of reproductive age were currently using any form of family planning methods.
He further said that the low uptake of family planning services had been attributed to weak demand, generational activities, poor spousal discussion and inadequate dissemination of key benefits of these services.
Mr. Uwaifo stressed that the federal ministry of health in collaboration with other relevant stakeholders had worked assiduously towards developing the new logo the “GREEN DOT”, adding that the re-branding and re-positioning of the Family Planning programme would address the unmet needs of family planning and increase the acceptability and uptake of modern family planning methods.
He commended all the development and implementing partners, MDA, media, traditional and religious leaders for the tremendous work done over years to improve maternal health through focused interventions.
