The Federal Ministry Of Health has written to all Chief Medical Directors and Medical Directors of Federal Tertiary Hospitals in the country in a memo dated 12th July 2016 and tittled RE: Conciliation Meeting Between Government And The Health Sector Unions (JOHESU)

The memo signed by the Head, Department of Hospital Services Dr. Wapada I. Balami stated that in an effort to resolving the lingering crises in the health sector the Joint Health Sector Union (JOHESU) has been urgently directed to foward to the Ministry a status report on the implementation of CONHESS 10, skipping Arrears of other Health workers other than Medical Doctor for verification and the names, locations of all Consultants that had not been paid any specialist allowance before the 21st of July, 2016.

It would be recalled that JOHESU recently called off their 7 day warning strike which kicked off on the 23rd of June 2016. The health workers expressed displeasure that after 92 days ultimatum issued the Federal Government, they were yet to reach an agreement.

It said: “It was observed that despite the series of meetings earlier held with committees and sub-committees set up to look into the various issues presented by JOHESU and agreements reached, to our utmost surprise, the Federal Government asserted that there was no agreement.”

They also bemoaned that other issues upon which previous submissions had been made were equally pushed to the unions to make fresh submission showing lack of seriousness on the part of the government.
