The Federal Government yesterday has flagged-off a six-day workshop on Mental Health and Psycho-Social Support (MHPSS) organized for Health and Nutrition Emergency Response Project (HNERP) Personnel in Borno state.
This was made known in a press release made available to LEADERSHIP, by the Ministry of Health.
The statement noted that the Mental Health programme was necessary, as a critical component of the Health and Nutrition Emergency Response.
It reads in part, “the aim of the programme was to provide psychosocial and mental health intervention to the traumatized people in the state.’’
This is as the federal government also reiterated its commitment towards alleviating the plights of the Internal Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the Northeast. The statement disclosed that the Minister of State for Health, Dr.Osagie Ehanire gave the assurance in Maiduguri, at a briefing on Health and Nutrition Emergency Response in Borno State (HNERIBS).
He explained that health sector response is one of the strategic interventions of the administration of President MuhammaduBuhari, towards rebuilding the Northeast, especially Borno State, adding that it was a necessary step taken to restore normalcy to the IDPs.
The statement also revealed that the federal government had initially deployed a 20 man Rapid Response Team (RRT) to work with the Borno State government to assist in drawing up work plan on how to improve the wellbeing of residents.
According to the statement, “the plan had been approved and funded by the Federal Government, through the Federal Ministry of Health which is currently being implemented, stressing that the intervention is providing emergency nutrition and strengthening the health surveillance system targeting the IDPs in camps or host communities.”
“A total of 325 ad-hoc staff have been recruited and deployed including doctors and nurses,” it says.
