As part of its Cooperate Social Responsibilities to the general public, the MTN Foundation in partnership with Federal Ministry of Health has launched a “Yellow Heart initiative” to provide free quality healthcare service to the less privileged women and children in the country.

The Yellow Heart initiative was expected to address predominate issues such as attitude and cultural practice that hinder women and children from accessing healthcare services in the society.

The first phase of the project would kick start at six states: Oyo, Ogun, Niger, Kaduna, Cross River and Abia with duration of six months, October 2017 – March 2018.

Activities to be conducted by the yellow Heart initiative include workshop on pregnancy, child birth and breastfeeding, stakeholders’ awareness fora on maternal and child health as well as donation of delivery kits. 

Speaking at event, the Hon. Minister of Health, Prof. Isaac Adewole represented by the Permanent Secretary, Mr. Osarenoma Clement Uwaifo said that the programme would accelerate reduction of maternal mortality in Nigeria.

He said that phase two of the programme would focus on states with high mortality rate; namely, Sokoto, Kebbi, Jigawa, Katsina, Zamfara and Yobe.

The Minister appreciated the MTN Foundation for introducing such a laudable programme which focuses mostly on the Health of Women and Children. He called on other partners to complement the Federal and State Government’s effort in providing healthcare service to Nigerian.

Earlier, the Chairman MTN Foundation, Prince Julius Adeluyi said that the Foundation considered it worthy to contribute toward the development of healthcare of women and children.

He said apart from providing the healthcare services, MTN Foundation is poised to address social and cultural practices that hinder women from accessing healthcare service in the country.

Adeluyi also called on partners to come on board to support the Nigerian healthcare system rather than criticizing it.
