Federal Government of Nigeria has proposed the sum of 4milion US Dollar for the procurement of Contraceptive Commodities in Nigeria.
The Minister of Health, Prof. Isaac Adewole, represented by the Director Family Health, Dr. Adebimpe Adebiyi made this known on Thursday, 23rd November, 2017 while speaking at the maiden health Communication Conference organized by the Association of Nigerian Health Journalist in Abuja, with a theme: Family Planning 2020: How is Nigeria Faring and sub-theme: Subduing the Challenges of Immunization in Nigeria”.
The Minister said that in the proposed 2018 budget, Nigeria has increased funding for procurement of family Planning Commodities. He said “Nigeria has been contributing 3milion US Dollar in UNFPA basket annually for the procurement of Family Planning commodities, however, in 2018 budget Nigeria proposed additional one million US Dollar for the purchase of Family Planning commodities to complement the commodities procured and managed by the UNFPA. This would continue till 2020”.
Adewole further explained that the recent launch of New Family Planning Logo and Family Planning Communication Plan in Nigeria was an indication that Nigeria was on the right tract to scale up Family Planning.
He urged the media to work with the Federal Ministry of Health and other Health Stakeholders to create more awareness for the use of contraceptive commodities.
In his keynote address, the Executive Director, National Primary Healthcare Development Agency (NPHCDA) Dr. Faisal Shuaib represented by the Programme Manager, National Emergency Routine Immunization Coordination Centre, Dr. Basy Okposen said the Federal Government had provided immunization for children which should be administered free of charge.
