To tackle the malaria scourge, the Chairman, Publix Pharmaceuticals Nigeria, Mr. Frank Owelle, has said that the organisation will donate free medications to general hospitals in Lagos, Anambra and Kano State.
Owelle, who spoke at the unveiling of Publitem 80/480 anti-malaria drugs in Lagos, said the gesture was to increase indigent patient’s access to genuine anti-malarials while also reducing the prevalence of the disease across the country.

He said the organisation had also inaugurated a more patient-friendly ACT formulation to increase patient’s adherence to treatment. “It is formulated in convenient dosing for adults and children. The tablet’s shape and size make it most suitable for patient compliance. The flavoured suspension is a child’s delight. This initiative is set to take the battle against malaria further and collaborate with all stakeholders in the fight against the scourge,” Owelle said.
In his address, the President, Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria, Ahmed Yakasai, stated that despite investments in prevention and control, Nigeria still had the highest burden of the disease in Africa.
Yakasai, who identified the presence of counterfeit antimalarials for this trend, however, urged consumers to use the mobile authentication system and other verification technology on drugs before buying.
