Following the outbreak and confirmed cases of yellow fever in neighbouring Bauchi State, the Gombe State government on Wednesday formed a ten-man committee on Public Health Emergency Response to check spread.
The Executive Secretary, State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Dr Abdulrahman Shu’aibu, confirmed the measures taken by the state government.
He said there was active surveillance of yellow fever across the state as well as mass vaccination among all groups at risk. “We have commenced general public sensitisation on yellow fever.

“So far, the committee has strategized line of activities which revolves around mass vaccination in ten wards across three LGAs bordering the affected area of Bauchi State and production of 3,000 yellow fever IEC posters. We have also started advocacy visit to community leaders in LGAs bordering Bauchi State.”
Shuaibu confirmed that the Ministry of Health and the state Primary Health Care Development Agency were working with the NCDC and other partners like World Health Organisation and UNICEF in the state.
He noted that Governor Inuwa Yahaya had demonstrated his commitment to effective health care service delivery in the state. “It is therefore hoped that this step taken by the governor will yield the desired result, especially at the primary level,” he added.
