The Director of medical services, Dr. Azubuike Nweje, made the remarks at a workshop for members of National Complementary and Alternative Medical Association (NACAMA) in Awka, the state capital.
He underscored the need for all the alternative medical practitioners to be listed and must belong to the National Association of Alternative Medical
Practitioners.
He also emphasized that surgery was never part of alternative medicine, advising those who felt they have the qualification to present such to the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria for vetting.
The National President of NACAMA, Professor Peter Katchy, said that alternative medicine was not traditional or native medicine, describing it as a system of medicine with pharmaceutical procedure, distinct pharmacopeia and empirical values with code of conduct and code of ethics.
