Group Decries Low Budgetary Allocation To Health

Posted on: Thu 19-01-2017

A media/civil society group in Gombe State, the Maternal Newborn and Child Health (MNCH) Coalition, has described as grossly inadequate, the state government budgetary allocation to the health sector in the 2017 appropriation.

Speaking yesterday during the Ministry of Health budget defence at the state House of Assembly, the Chairman of the Coalition, Comrade Alhassan Yahaya said the allocation to the health sector fell short of the 2001 Abuja Declaration that benchmarked health budget to be 15 per cent of the total fiscal budget.

The state governor, Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo, had in his budget estimate for 2017, presented N85.595 billion to the state House of Assembly, in which the health sector was allocated N2.571 billion.
