A non-governmental organisation, the Road to Recovery Foundation, has begun the sensitisation of residents of Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, to the free access to rehabilitation for stroke and arthritis survivors. The group said it was offering free rehabilitation to stroke and arthritis survivors living in pain and despair.
The Regional Director of the foundation, Dr Prosper Orezimena, said it was collaborating with the Rivers State Ministry of Health and King Alfred Diette-Spiff, the Amanyanabo of Twon-Brass kingdom and former military governor of the state.
Orezimena said, “The purpose of this walk is to commemorate the 2019 World Stroke and Arthritis Day, to give hope to survivors and people living with arthritis and stroke, to encourage them not to give up and to let them know that there is hope through rehabilitation.
“At the Road to Recovery Foundation, rehabilitation for survivors is free; instead of them to sit at home in despair over the knee and joint pains as a result of arthritis or stroke, just come to the Road to Recovery and we will support you to get back on your feet to live your life free from pain, arthritis and stroke.”
Orezimena noted that stroke and arthritis were not spiritual conditions, but medical issues, which could be cured through medication and rehabilitation. The director stated, “We are sensitising Rivers people that stroke and arthritis are not spiritual conditions; secondly, to tell survivors of stroke and arthritis living with pain that the Road to Recovery Foundation is here for them to rehabilitate them back to normal life.
“The ‘Waka to Cure Awareness Campaign’ is organised by the foundation in collaboration with the Rivers State Ministry of Health and King Alfred Diette Spiff.”
