The Association of General and Private Medical Practitioners of Nigeria, Oyo State, has said it will partner pharmaceutical firms in the country to fight against the circulation of fake drugs in Nigeria. The chairman of the group, Dr Dapo Adeniyi, asked members of the association to use the 2019 Health Forum slated for July 30 to begin the campaign against fake drugs. Adeniyi spoke while addressing executive members of the group at the NMA House, Total Garden, Ibadan, Oyo State, a statement said on Wednesday.
He said, “Doctors in Oyo State will use the annual health forum to work with pharmaceutical companies as a professional way of stemming the tide of fake and adulterated drugs in the country. “To ascertain effectiveness of stopping the menace of fake drugs, we are inviting pharmaceutical companies, who manufacture, import as well as market drugs in Nigeria.
“Through the exhibition of drugs, clinical presentations and sales to retailers, it becomes easier for doctors to assess the quality of drugs in the country. Doctors and retailers who are experts in various fields will attend the four-day health forum from all the six states of the South-West – Lagos, Ogun, Osun, Ekiti, Ondo and Oyo.”
The AGPMPN is the umbrella body of owners of private hospitals in Nigeria. Its Oyo State chapter will hold the 2019 Health Forum from Tuesday July 30 to Friday, August 2, 2019, at the NMA Secretariat, Total Garden, Ibadan.
