A non-governmental organisation, Asaigbo Foundation is set to launch a cancer care initiative to increase awareness, promote early detection and treatment of the disease. The foundation had in recent times received an endorsement from the Global Peace and Sustainable Network, a UN Sponsored organisation, which promised support.
According to the Managing Director of the foundation, Serah Ukasoanya, her interest in cancer was ignited after her godmother died of the illness. She noted that the project, which would be launched on September 6, 2019, in Owerri, Imo State, is to enlighten people on the importance of early detection. “We are partnering with the Federal Ministry of Health, National Orientation Agency (NOA), Nigerian Police Force (NPF), Abuja, Imo state university, the media and so on.”
Meanwhile, during a courtesy visit to the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Imo state, Uche Onyeaguocha, stressed the government’s support towards the launch of the initiative.
