Committee of Chief Executives of tertiary health institutions in Nigeria has appealed to the National Assembly to amend the Act establishing the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND) to accommodate teaching hospitals in the country.
Chairman of the committee, Dr. Thamos Agan made the appeal at the weekend in Calabar while briefing journalists on what he called the skewed nature of the Act against tertiary health institutions in the country. According to him, adequate evaluation of the mandate of the Trust Fund had shown genuine relevance to the development of teaching and research by teaching hospitals in Nigeria.
“This is because teaching or tertiary hospitals in the country can also be called the workshop of the universities. There is no doubt that about 80% of all students graduating through any medical school of a university would have undergone training in the tertiary hospital,” he explained.
