The Chief Medical Director (CMD) of a Zaria-based clinic –  Salama Infirmary Hospital and Maternity Limited, Prof. Victor Kolawole  yesterday called for proper objectivity by media practitioners.
In a statement signed yesterday, Kolawole also condemned a media report he described  as “a negative and an unbalanced publication meant to indict his facility.”
He emphasized that the call was imperative in view of the fact that some media organizations were used to blackmail innocent people.
The CMD stressed the need for proper check of media organizations’ activities including social media to allow for free flow of genuine  information.
“Salama Infirmary Hospital and Maternity has been in existence in Zaria for almost 26 years (since June 1991) as a small clinic and has  grown in size, capacity and service delivery.
“It has contributed positively to the provision of healthcare service delivery in Zaria and other towns and villages in neighbouring local governments areas of Katsina and Kano states,” he said.
He lamented that a report was circulated against the hospital by an (NGO), Global Initiative for Women  and Children (GIWAC) on the case of one Rukkaya  Ya’u Adamu.
Kolawole said the leg of Rukayya was not amputated by Salama hospital
as claimed by the NGO.
According to him, the NGO neither visited nor contacted Salama Hospital Management before they went to the media.
“Meanwhile, the media organization that published the story did notcontact us to balance the story, indicating that it is a calculated attempt to dent our reputation.
“The patient, Rukayya Ya’u Adamu was known with a five year old sickle cell disease which was diagnosed by this hospital in 2014,” he said.
