The Ogun State Police Command says it has arrested a health worker, Yewande Gbadebo, who allegedly used a hot knife to inflict injuries on the body of her 17-year-old maid, identified as Janet.
She had accused the maid of eating a loaf of bread without her consent.
The arrest of the suspect, who works at Community Health Centre in Erunbe, Abeokuta South Local Government Area, was facilitated by Committee for the Defence of Human Rights, Ogun State chapter.

The state chairman, CDHR, Olayinka Folarin, in company with officials of Child Protection Network, had on Wednesday traced the suspect to her shop in the Iberekodo area of Abeokuta, but she was not available. However, the maid was rescued and handed over to the police.
The 32-year-old woman was later arrested and taken to the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit of the state police command at Oke Ilewo area of the state.
She reportedly told the police that she had used the hot knife to threaten the victim and never thought the injury could be severe.
Gbadebo, who is a beneficiary of the N-Power, a Federal Government scheme, confessed to the police that she got the maid through a suspected child trafficker in Osogbo, Osun State.
Neighbours of the health worker described the arrest of the suspect as long overdue, saying she had been maltreating the victim.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, confirmed the incident.
He said, “The suspect has been arrested. She inflicted injuries on her maid with a hot knife. She will be charged to court on completion of investigation.”
