Medical and Health Workers’ Union of Nigeria, South-East chapter has threatened to embark on strike over the poor working conditions of its members in Anambra and Enugu states.
The National Vice-President of the association, Ikechukwu Nwafor, stated this on Thursday during the opening ceremony of the South-East Zonal Workshop/Meeting of the union in Awka, the Anambra State capital. Nwafor said the union had given three months ultimatum to the Anambra and Enugu states governments to implement the Consolidated Health Salary Structure or face an industrial action.
He said, “We have decided that after the expiration of the period, members may be forced to embark on an industrial action.”
“The implementation of CONHESS commenced at the federal level since nine years ago; it is sad that the Enugu State Government has not commenced the implementation while Anambra State pays a paltry 60 per cent to the state health workers and 40 per cent to council workers.”
