Imo Communities Stop Female Genital Mutilation

Twenty eight communities in  Ngor-Okpala Local Government Area of Imo State yesterday stopped female genital mutilation.
 
The public denunciation ceremony was made at the Perpetua Nwocha Stadium, Umuneke Ngor, during which traditional rulers women and youth leaders, the clergy and all other stakeholders in the area raised their voices and instruments of traditional authority to say “Good bye to female genital mutilation/cutting”.
 
Chairman of the Ngor Okpala Council of Ndi Eze,  Eze Geoffrey Okoro, explained that the monarchs in the area along with other stakeholders in the community had since the past two years brainstormed, interfaced and dialogued over ways of eradicating the obnoxious practice.
 
The Commissioner for Gender Affairs and Social Development, Mrs Edna Obioma Okorie, commended the communities for stopping female genital mutilation.
