Imo State Governor, Emeka Ihedioha has decried high rate of drug abuse among youths, stressing that his administration would set up a task force to clamp down on vendors of fake and unapproved drugs in the state.

The governor, represented by his Senior Special Adviser on Media, Steve Osuji, disclosed this at a one-day advocacy workshop on Drug and Substance Abuse organised by the Pharmacists Council of Nigeria (PCN) for students and youths in the Southeast, held in Owerri.

Ihedioha said most vices and crimes in the society were traceable to drug abuse and called on the Federal Government, as well as concerned bodies, to intensify efforts aimed at eradicating the menace.

Earlier, the PCN Registrar, Elijah Mohammed, said drug abuse among the youths had assumed frightening dimension and demanded all hands to be on deck to combat it.
He called for full implementation of Prescription Policy and the National Drug Distribution Guidelines, which would ensure the closure of all open drug markets, eradicate the use, misuse and abuse of narcotics, and other unapproved substances by the youths.
