The Joint Health Sector Union has bemoaned the delay in the implementation of the alternative dispute resolution agreement approved by the National Industrial Court of Nigeria to address the disharmony in the health sector.

It also accused the Federal Ministry of Health of allegedly violating the consent judgment of the industrial court despite being mandated through specific intervention plans with timelines to ameliorate the restiveness of its members.

The chairman of the union, Biobelemoye Josiah, stated this during a courtesy visit to the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Health, Alhaji Abdulaziz Mashi Abdullahi.

Josiah noted that members of the union had observed the relative inactivity that ensued after the consent judgment and, therefore, urged the ministry to immediately energise the necessary machinery for the actualisation of the various ADR resolutions which had become a judgment of the NICN.

“The reality as it stands now is that the Federal Ministry of Health has violated the judgment of the NICN because many of the timelines have expired,” he added.

He, therefore, demanded the immediate creation of the reflected structures, including a central internship placement committee for all eligible health professionals and the payment of promotion/skipping arrears, in line with the NICN judgment.
