Members of the Joint Union of Health Workers (JOHESU), Usman Danfodiyo University Teaching Hospital branch have accused their leaders of betrayal following the sudden appearance of the chief medical director of the hospital, Dr. Ahmed Yakubu at the take-off venue for their planned protest yesterday.
The union was billed to stage a peaceful protest to press home their demands for timely promotion and payments of arrears, among others. They planned to start the protest from the trauma section of the hospital and terminate it at the main administrative block but the CMD appearance at the takeoff venue stalled the protest.
“They are the ones who informed him about the protest. In fact they invited him here. They sold us out,” one of the aggrieved members alleged. “Why did they (leaders) invite the CMD here? We should have taken our protest to his office for him to address us there,” he said
However, the secretary of JOHESU, Muhammad Bashir Abdulmajid said the CMD was there being the Chief executive officer of the hospital, adding, “When we decided to hold this protest, we sent notification to many people, including the CMD because he is the Chief security and Chief Executive officer of this place. We cannot organize a protest without informing him.”
