The meeting between the Federal Government and the striking Joint Health Sector Unions which lasted about four hours Wednesday night ended in a deadlock.
The meeting, chaired by the minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, had in attendance the minister of health, Isaac Adewole, the chairman, incomes, salaries and wages commission, Richard Egbule and the JOHESU Chairman, Josiah Biobelemoye in the company of his executive members.
The meeting ended without any agreement because the Federal Government has insisted renegotiating agreements entered into by the Workers Unions and Past Government while the workers insisted that they were attending the meeting to get assurance on the template for implementation of agreements reached and not to begin fresh negotiation.
JOHESU is asking for the payment of over twenty two billion naira (N20 Billion) adjusted consolidated health salary structure, among others, which government had already agreed to pay in 2017
Meanwhile the federal government has asked the health workers to fix another day for a meeting to look at the issues in contention.
For now all federal health institutions are still on strike, even as there are indications that states may join following the failed Federal Government and JOHESU talks.
