The Plateau State chapter of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) has said the demand by the Joint Health Sector Union (JOHESU) for salary parity with medical doctors is unrealistic and unacceptable.
He said the training of doctors who spent many strenuous years in the university was different from that of other health workers and therefore ought to be on a different salary scale.
Addressing newsmen in Jos the Plateau State capital, the Acting Chairman of the state NMA, Dr Dajel Bulus, said in as much as the other health workers are important in the hospitals and health system, they need not be in any form of salary competitions with the doctors to the extent that they would be embarking on strike on such basis.
He however said some JOHESU members in Plateau State have partially called off their strike in order to reciprocate the good will of Governor Simon Lalong who has strived against all financial challenges to implement one of the best salary structures for them without any threat of strike and has also continued to pay their salaries regularly and passionately.
