Joint Health Sector Unions (JOHESU) to Resume Strike

The strike action that was suspended by the Joint Health Sector Unions (JOHESU) on March 2, may likely resume again soon.

According to the communiqué signed by the National President of NUAHP, Felix Faniran and the association’s General Secretary, Obinna Ogbonna, the association had agreed to meet with the president in order to have their demands met immediately after the general elections.

Confirming this, Chairman, Nigerian Union of Allied Health Professionals (NUAHP), Lagos Chapter, told National Mirror that the association may indeed go on strike if the president refuses to accent to their demand. He said the strike would depend on the outcome of the association’s meeting with the president today.

“Already, members of the association are meeting with the president and the outcome will determine whether we will go on strike or not”, he said.

The association also commended Dr. Khaliru Alhassan as the new Minister of Health, while lamenting the appointment of an engineer as the new minister of state for Health.

“While the Union disagrees with President Goodluck Jonathan’s action in ignoring the incessant call to balance the appointment of members of the Nigherian Medical Association (NMA) with members of the Allied Health professional”, the communiqué said.
