The Kogi State chapter of the Medical and Health Workers’ Union of Nigeria (MHWUN) has threatened to embark on a statewide strike action should the state government go ahead with its decision to outsource their services to a private firm.

The Kogi State Chairman of the union, Comrade Onuh Edoka, who spoke at its stakeholders meeting in Lokoja, said the union would also not hesitate to take the government to court over the matter, adding that the issue became imperative as the state government had concluded plans to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with a private organisation to carry out the duties of trained environmental health officers in the state.

 

He said rather than outsourcing the services, government should look inward and allow the environmental health officers across the 21 local government areas of the state to perform their duties.
