Lack of technology, adequate electricity supply and other befitting materials in Nigerian hospitals are the bane of the country's health sector.
The overall best 2012 graduate of cardiology of Nigerian extraction from the 'Memorial sa'ad Medical Centre of the University of Cairo, Egypt who is also an indigene of Bauchi State, Dr. Ahmed Abdulrahman Mohammed asserted this recently during an interview with journalists in Bauchi.
The heart doctor who opined that all nations that excelled in medicine have advanced technologically, advised government and institutions in Nigeria to accord priority to the profession so that more students would be motivated to study it, adding that only when there is conducive atmosphere that the country could produce qualified doctors.
Mohammed , noted that his decision. to specialise in,. cardiology was informed by the consideration of inadeqtlate experts in the nation and the frequent deaths of patients who suffer from heart related diseases. "Heart failure is now a common cause of deaths across the globe after road accidents. I carried out a research sometime ago that showed that many Africans suffer from hypertension which concomitantly causes heart diseases. Hence my decision to specialise in the treatment of such diseases in order to help my society,"he explained.
The physician claimed that he was currently a member of over 102 professional associations in the world "and had received several awards that included award of excellence from Misr University for Science and Technology, Egypt in 2012, best scientific researcher at scientific research competition Organised by the university in December 2012 as well as best poster presenter at .#1e ;3rd intemationalpeclical s,ciences students", congress at Istanbul Univei*y, Turkey in 2012.
