The Chairman, Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria, Lagos state chapter, Mrs. Adeniran Bolanle has called for the need to sensitize the general public on adequate personal and environmental hygiene to prevent further spread of Lassa fever in the state.

 

Stating her stand on the outbreak of the disease at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), Adeniran told The Guardian that Nigerians need to be educated to imbibe the habit of cleanliness, avoid rodent infested food and wastes in order to be safe. She also urged Nigerians to report suspected cases to the nearest health facility to prevent and control the spread.

 

Meanwhile, Adeniran, at the pre-2017 Pharmacy Week press briefing held in Lagos, with the theme: “National Development: The Role of Pharmaceutical Sector”, has called for government’s collaboration in battling and preventing illegal manufacturing and importation of counterfeit drugs, as it poses great danger on the health of the citizens. 

 

Adeniran commended the Lagos State government for enlisting community pharmacists into the state health scheme law, calling for its implementation in order to reach the grass roots.
