The Business Initiative Directors (BID) International has again conferred another mile stone award of World Quality Commitment on Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH).
The award was conferred by BID Geneva in recognition of the outstanding commitment and unwavering performance of the hospital to quality and excellence which merits the International Platinum Star for Quality.
It would be recalled that BID England and BID Paris International Quality Control IQC had earlier conferred the award on the hospital in November 2014 and 2015 Respectively.
Since the inception of the hospital as a cottage hospital in 1955, even till it assumed the full status of a general hospital and the eventual upgrade in 2001 to a teaching hospital, it has being a “work-in-progress hospital and its policies are geared toward ensuring quality in patients’ care.
This, without any doubt led to radical changes that took place in the hospital in the last decade. The quality assurance service was engaged in LASUTH in 2010 and such service, has changed the modus operandi in all the wings of the hospital. The hospital has come to realize that best practice can only be achieved through adherence to daily practice of quality.
The existence of LASUTH Quality Assurance Department necessitated the establishment of a standard with continuous surveillance and monitoring in all the departments of the hospital to ensure best practice is in place.
LASUTH quality policy is to encourage process excellence and operational effectiveness in every department and unit through the implementation of standard operating procedures and key performance indicators.
While receiving the award on behalf of management and the entire staff of hospital, the Chief Medical Director, Professor Wale Oke wholeheartedly thanked the BID, the organizer of WQC award, for checking on LASUTH, and equally choosing the institution to receive this prestigious award while also promising that LASUTH shall continue to uphold quality through best practice.
