The Chief Executive Officer, Kasi Healthcare, Dr Adedayo Osholowu, has said the establishment of a robotic knee replacement centre in Nigeria will curb medical tourism in the country.
Osholowu said this during the unveiling of a partnership between Kasi Healthcare and Lokmanya Group of Hospitals recently.
He said, “When people know that the service they are going abroad to get is available in Nigeria they will stay back in the country for treatment and this will curb the issue of medical tourism in Nigeria.
“The focus of the partnership is on locally provided care and training fellowships for Nigerian doctors, nurses, and health care technicians as part of the five-year programme with a vision to establish the first local robotic joint replacement service in Nigeria.”
According to him, Nigerians will benefit from the partnership because Lokmanya Orthopedics is the pioneer of robotic-assisted knee replacement surgery in India, performing over 4,000 cases a year. Osholowu said, “In 2018 their team set the Guinness Book of Records for most knee replacement surgeries performed in a single day.
“This collaboration will establish our orthopaedic service as a leader in the region doing more for bone and joint care for Nigeria and bring the best technology and top doctors in orthopaedics and sports medicine to the people of Nigeria.”
The President of Lokmaya Hospitals, Dr Narendra Vaidya, said the partnership would focus on locally provided care in the best interest of Nigerians.
