Governor Babagana Umara of Borno State on Thursday promised to build a teaching hospital for the state university in the next one year. This, he said, would enable the institution to start courses in medical sciences.
The governor, who is visitor to the university, made the promise at the inauguration of the institution’s first Senate, which held on its campus in Maiduguri. Umara said he had instructed that a suitable site near the university campus should be searched for the building of the teaching hospital.
He said the teaching hospitalwould meet all the criteria for the award of degrees in medicine and surgery. The governor also promised that within the next three months, staff quarters of 50 houses would be constructed in the university.
Umara said he was determined to ensure the completion of all ongoing projects preparatory to “a grand inauguration” in January of 2020.
Earlier during the inauguration of the Senate, the university’s Vice Chancellor, Prof. Kyari Sandabe, said the school would begin academic activities from the 2019/2020 session, following approval by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board.
