The Kwara State Assembly Chairman, Committee on Health and Environment, Mr. Ahmed Ibn-Mohammed, has said that the release of N200m by the Kwara State Governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed, as counterpart fund for the Community Health Insurance Scheme, will boost the scheme in the state.
He stated that the money would help in making all categories of subscribers in the state to have access to affordable quality health care delivery.
He spoke during the ministerial budget defence of the State Ministry of Health, according to a statement by a media aide to the Speaker, KWHA, Abdulrahman Sanni. The lawmakers said Ahmed’s gesture was an indication that government placed priority on its social responsibility to the people of the state, adding that the Assembly under its Speaker, Dr. Ali Ahmad, was poised to ensure efficiency of the health sector in the state.
Mohammed said the scheme had earned the state international recognition. He added that although the scheme currently covered 11 local government areas, a bill that would make the entire people of the state benefit from it had passed through second reading on the floor of the House.
According to him, the health sector has the lion share of the state budget this year, adding that the legislature would ensure value for money through its oversight function.
