The Chief Medical Director, Lagos University Teaching Hospital, Prof Chris Bode, has advocated teamwork among health care workers in the country. Bode stated this during the grand finale of the 2019 LUTH WEEK held recently in Lagos.

He explained that the theme for the 2019 LUTH Week, ‘Teamwork: Integrating Passion, Purpose and People’, was chosen to discuss how to move the health sector forward.

He said, “Teamwork is the way to go in health care delivery. No matter how good any single component of a medical team can be, you cannot do it all. Even as an excellent neurosurgeon, a cleaner can ruin your work if she is not carried along. Teamwork is paramount.

“So, today we are celebrating the team that we have been able to build over the years. It is a thing of joy to behold the happiness in the faces of our workers as they celebrate each other. Many of us have never been appreciated for all our efforts to ensure that patients get well.”

The Secretary to the Board, LUTH, Dr Babajide Grillo, said, “We call it a hospital system because it consists of so many parts. Just like the human body that needs all the parts to function well, the hospital system needs all necessary practitioners to do an excellent job. Nobody will come to LUTH if they are told they’ll meet only the laboratory scientists there. So, all of us have to come together to make sure the system works.”
