The Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) has launched a ‘one more day’ campaign to help curtail suicide attempts.

The Chief Medical Director (CMD) LUTH, Prof. Chris Bode, said solving the problem should be a common goal for everybody and LUTH, being a foremost hospital was determined to reduce the tragedy.

Bode added that the campaign was to complement others that were still running because when people feel that they are hopeless and there is nothing more to life, then the idea of taking their own life starts popping in.

Besides, a consultant psychiatrist, Dr. Yewande Oshodi, in her remarks thanked the CMD for the initiative, saying the incident that happened few days ago pushed them to start the campaign.

Oshodi said: “Suicide is a most unwanted incident anyone could like to experience either by losing a loved one or friend and it is preventable to some degrees.

“The stigma of psychotics and mental health makes it difficult for people to come out when they are going through issues. I think this initiative is very laudable.”
