Medical Council Inducts Foreign Trained 164 Doctors, Dentists

The Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria, MDCN, has inducted 164 foreign trained medical and dental graduates. A total of 334 medical and seven dental candidates who got their training in different countries of the world registered for the April 2017 Assessment Examination. 
 
Out of the number only 160 medical and 4 dental surgeons were able to scale through. This represents 47 per cent success for the medical and 57 per cent success for the dental. Overall, the success rate of is 40 per cent. 
 
The assessment examination is conducted to assess candidates who were trained in countries outside Nigeria and obtained medical or dental qualifications recognized by the individual regulatory body of such countries. 
 
At the event, Minister of Health, Prof. Isaac Adewole, expressed concern over the inability of medical students trained overseas to pass the needed assessment examination here in Nigeria. 
 
Adewole charged the new inductees to be decent in their dressing and also be ready to face public scrutiny. The  Acting Registrar of the MDCN, Dr. Tajudeen Sanusi, reiterated the commitment of his Council to sanitise medical training in Nigeria. 
 
He warned that: “Only qualifications from accredited medical/dental institutions are recognized for certification. “Council advises parents/guardians of prospective candidates seeking admission to medical/dental schools in Nigeria and overseas to clarify form the Council, the status of institutions of their interest.”
