The Guild of Medical Directors (GMD) has called on the federal government to review the leadership of the National Health Insurance Scheme ((NHIS) to ensure industrial peace in the organization.
National President of the guild, Prof. Femi Dokun-Babalola, made the call in a statement yesterday in Abuja.
He said the guild was not happy with the repeated unrest in the scheme, adding that it is affecting the smooth running of the scheme and having negative consequences on enrollees.
The guild also called for improvement in the present structure of the scheme involving the NHIS, Health Management Organizations (HMOs), the service providers (hospitals) and enrollees.
While decrying the scheme’s low coverage of the population, the guild called for the introduction of mandatory enrollment by all eligible families in the country.
They said there is need to accredit more private institutions in anticipation of the increased load of enrollees, even as they called for health insurance in states to ensure Universal Health Care.
The Guild of Medical Directors is the body of medical doctors who own and run private hospitals and clinics in Nigeria.
