• Governor extols Chief Press Secretary Akase
Indigenous medical students of Benue State in higher institutions in the country have rated Ortom high for recording what they described as "great steps in the health sector".
The delegation, which was led by Martins Alagh, spoke when they visited Ortom at the Benue Peoples House yesterday.
They hailed his prompt payment of the accreditation requirements at the Benue State University,' which paved the way for the graduation of three sets of doctors.
The students also acknowledged the reconstruction of the School of Nursing and Midwifery, as well as the College of Health Technology, Agasha, which hastened their reaccreditation.
Alagh solicited the restora-tion of the medical students bond scheme for clinical medical students which, he said, was vital to their graduation.
Ortom promised that the government would support them from the clinical stage to enable them graduate without hitches. He acknowledged the high cost of medical training when he noted that the government had to suspend the bond scheme due to irregularities.
Promising that other methods would be adopted to ensure that the students finish their programme, the governor directed the Commissioner for Health and Human Services, Dr. Cecilia Ojabo, to find ways of blocking the loopholes in the scheme so that it could be revived.
Governor Ortom has also extolled the professional attributes of his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Terver Akase, describing him as a rare breed.
He spoke yesterday when Akase's kinsmen in Mbatsen community in Konshisha Local Government, visited him at the Benue Peoples House to thank him for his appointment.
Ortom hinted that he knew his CPS through his objective reports, noting that Akase's elevation from senior special assistant on Media to chief press secretary was based on merit.
He urged the people to support the promotion of excellence, even as he thanked the Konshisha people for producing an upright son committed to serving the state.
The delegation, led by the district head of Mbatsen, Chief Nder Kuhwa, appealed to the government to prevail on the contractor handling the GeIkyobo-Agbeede-Amua-Anshagba road to complete the project.
Chief Kuhwa lamented the project's slow speed, saying if nothing was done, the road might not be completed soon.
He also appealed that the electrification of Anshagba to Amua be extended to Agbeede to boost the local economy. The governor promised to look into these demands.
